Failure isn’t a nice word. Some people fear it so much that they avoid doing anything, just so they don’t have to experience it. All of us, at one time or another, has failed at something – we are only human, after all – but, I’ll bet that you still remember every occasion where you failed in the past, and it’s likely that this has stopped you from trying again in the future.

Failing is a horrible feeling. If you didn’t receive criticism from somebody else, the chances are you gave yourself a hard time, especially if it was a project close to your heart. What you need to remember is that failure is just a means to success.

Think Before You Speak

I am sure if asked, we have all been guilty at some point in our lives of saying something inappropriate. Or of speaking impulsively, without thinking. For the majority of people I believe this is not done with any real intention of offending. But for some individuals, it can be a trait that they pride themselves in. One of speaking ‘plainly’, without using the filter of their minds to consider, if what they are about to say will hurt someone’s feelings, or give offense. Indeed, they may believe that it is a quality to be admired. I have often heard the expression used. “Well, people will always know where they stand with me, as I always speak my mind”.

The question I would ask you to consider is this. Is speaking your mind, or being blunt, without worrying about how what you say will be received by someone else. Something you would like to cultivate more in your life? It may be that you are someone who is not very confident.

The Power Of Optimism

You may already know that it is better to think positively than to have negative thoughts. There are many self-help books available that teach you the benefits of positive thinking, so why are there so many pessimists in the world?

One of the tests of optimism is the popular glass half-full or half-empty scenario; you are shown a glass and asked whether it is half- full or half- empty. Those who guess it is half-full are optimists. Do you see the glass as half-full? If so, congratulations, you are already on the way to living a better, longer and more fulfilling life.

Research has shown that pessimists die younger than optimists. This is a fact. If you consider yourself to be a pessimist, you should try to change your mind set. Pessimists do not enjoy life; they see the bad in everything. This may be because bad things keep happening to them and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

The Law of Attraction states that like attracts like and what we focus on becomes our reality; therefore, if we keep thinking negative thoughts, our lives will become full of negative situations. Optimists see the positive side in every situation, even negative ones. Optimists have hope. They also seem to have a sense of knowing that everything will turn out right in the end – and it usually does! Again, the Law of Attraction brings positive situations to optimists because this is what they expect.

The Prison Of The Mind

The mind is a very powerful thing. It is made up of two parts: the conscious and the subconscious. The conscious mind is the part you know you are using. When you are calculating a sum or talking to a friend, you are fully aware of what you are doing. The subconscious mind is the part that is responsible for our intuition, our dreams and where we store all of our long-term memories.

The subconscious mind is more powerful than you might think. It contains, not only memories, but negative or limiting beliefs that you’ve picked up during childhood. These limiting beliefs are things that you believe about certain things or situations that can have a negative effect on your life, without you being consciously aware of them. The strongest limiting beliefs were imprinted on your subconscious when you were just a small child. You wouldn’t have even been aware of it, at the time. These beliefs came from authority figures such as parents or teachers. You may have heard these people say things and, because you trusted these people, you believed these things. One example is a parent constantly telling you that ‘money doesn’t grow on trees’. You may think this is a harmless phrase that doesn’t mean anything; however, if you were constantly told this as a child, it could be the reason you have no money now.

The Power Of Thought

There has been a lot of research done, over the years, on the mind and how it works, particularly the subconscious mind and the power it has over you. You may not realize this, but your thoughts control your life. Everything you have in your life right now has been brought to you by the power of your thoughts. Unbelievable, but true.

This is why it is so important that you monitor the thoughts you have on a daily basis. If you’re like me, you will probably have all sorts of things going through your mind during a typical day, but be careful of any negative thoughts that cross your mind. It isn’t an accident that optimistic people live longer than pessimists and have happier lives as a result of their positivity. Negative thoughts are powerful; they attract negative circumstances and situations into your life.

Have you ever woken up and nothing seemed to go right: you dropped your toast on the floor; spilled coffee down your new blouse and then your car wouldn’t start. In those types of situations, your negative thoughts lead to more powerful negative outcomes and it’s like a vicious circle. You had one annoying experience and your first thought was probably, ‘it’s going to be one of those days’ or ‘bad things come in threes’ and then you are proven right as the rest of your day brings more of the same ‘unlucky’ scenarios.

Getting Rid Of Bad Habits

A habit is defined as a recurrent, often unconscious pattern of behavior that is acquired through frequent repetition. Habits are those things that are so automatic, we do them without even thinking about it. Whilst some habits are harmless; such as getting up at the same time every day; Having the same food for breakfast; following the exact same route to work without deviating every day. Others, which are detrimental to our well being, are not!

Some of the most common bad habits people struggle with are obvious, such as smoking, drinking too much, or spending too much time on the computer. But there are others, which may appear on the surface, to be a normal part of an individuals character; but are in reality, are just another habit. They were not born with this behaviour, it has developed over time. But has become through constant repetition, an ingrained part of their personality.
