The Mind And Meditation

Just relax! It’s a well intentioned piece of advice; but not a very effective one if this just adds more pressure for a person to  find inner-calmness. With the hustle and bustle of today’s world and technology moving at the speed of light, our minds are overrun with input from the moment we wake up to the moment we try to sleep.

The morning news, friends, family, coworkers, social media barrage us with opinions and trends, information and advice. And that’s not all! Background noise such as music and television can bring even more chaos for the mind to sort through. Regular practice of meditation brings about peace of mind, serenity, and allows the mind to be clear of chatter which then opens the door for intuition and psychic development.

Regaining Your Life

At some point in our lives,  it is highly likely that we will experience a period of extreme upheaval. When nothing seems to go right, or as planned. Unexpected events occur for which we are totally unprepared. Indeed, it can seem at these times, as if the very fabric of our lives is being torn apart or thrown upside down. Particularly, when experiencing traumatic life events; such as financial hardship, bereavement, divorce, redundancy or a potentially life threatening illness.

As Individuals, we all cope with difficult situations differently. Often no one knows how they will react to stress and adversity, until something happens or goes wrong to test them. One of the most important things to do, is to not be afraid to reach out and ask for help. But, you would be surprised how difficult this can be for many people. This can be for a variety of reasons. But primarily I believe it is a matter of pride and ego. Particularly for those who find it very difficult to admit to others, that they are unable to cope. For they believe to do so, would be an admission of weakness and failure.

Finding Peace

Peace is one of those things that most of us try to find, yet it sometimes seems to elude us. A lot of the time, we are at fault because we don’t let peace and quiet into our lives; we check our text messages while we watch television and eat a microwave meal at the same time, for instance. How is this going to help us achieve inner peace? As our lives become busier, multi-tasking has become the in thing. We are encouraged to do more than one thing at once, to save us time, yet most of us fill this extra time with more of the same. If we carry on like this, we are heading for burnout.

What is internal peace?
Internal peace is the sort of peace that makes us feel calm and centred. It enables us to cope with the stresses and strains that everyday life throws at us. You will notice the difference in somebody who has managed to find internal peace, because their life seems to run smoothly. They always seem so happy and carefree when you see them. They radiate good health and seem comfortable in their own skin. You can have this too, if you open up your mind and heart to achieving internal peace for yourself.

Creating Inner Peace

A lot of people, these days, are under stress. This may be for a variety of reasons from unemployment to juggling childcare and work. Our lives have become busier with the advent of new technology. Some of the gadgets that were invented to make our lives easier, such as mobile phones, have actually made our lives more stressful. How many of you can actually say that you take time to switch off and relax? If you are like the majority of the population, you probably check texts and emails on your mobile phone at least once every hour.

You may not even realise that you have a problem. Perhaps you are on the treadmill of life and have become comfortable in you routine. Perhaps you pour yourself a glass of wine when you get home from work each night to relax. This is not healthy, either, and is just a substitute for the inner peace you are subconsciously trying to achieve. You won’t achieve inner peace by drinking alcohol; it may help to relax you, at first, but when it becomes a habit, it can lead to all sorts of problems. Research has shown that people with highly stressful jobs are more likely to become dependent on alcohol.

Dealing With Stress

Stress is becoming increasingly common these days. This isn’t surprising when you think about all the changes going on in the world. Due to the economic meltdown, a lot of people are worried about losing their jobs, or wondering where their next meal is coming from. Food banks have been set up to help some of the poorest people, but there are others suffering from stress and anxiety who don’t know who to turn to.

Stress is a very debilitating illness. It is something that can be prevented, yet so many people let it get out of hand and this leads to physical illnesses manifesting. At its worst, stress can lead to depression. Depression is a clinical disease, which doctors prefer to treat by referring patients to counsellors; however, a lot of people prefer to take medication. This can lead to dependency. There are some types of depression that are hereditary, or are not caused by stress; however, there are incidences of depression that are a result of a build up of acute stress and anxiety. It is this type of depression that can be reversed using some stress-reduction strategies.
