A psychic is a person who has heightened sensory perceptions. These perceptions allow them to see, feel, hear, sense, or touch energy patterns which others are not attuned to experiencing. In other words, they are able to “tap into” a universal consciousness which they are then able to interpret for those who seek their help.
Some may use one or more tools of divination while others will use their keen intuition to access the information you need. Regardless of their process, psychics can offer assistance in many aspects of your daily life.

What is a psychic? You may ask. They seem to be on TV, and in films and books, but what actually makes someone psychic. In this day and age, anyone can set themselves up as a psychic. Magazines and websites are full of people who profess to be able to connect with people who have died or to be able to do Tarot card readings, about the past, present or future.
Many have no formal qualifications, unlike being a counsellor, there are no proper qualifications needed to become a psychic. You may be forgiven for thinking that psychics and mediums are one and the same. There are actually some psychics who are mediums; however, they are more likely to call themselves a medium, rather than a psychic.
If you are thinking of getting a psychic reading, then it is important that you know the difference between a psychic and a medium, as one may be more suitable for your needs than the other.
What is a psychic?
A psychic is someone who have highly-developed intuition. Some people call this the sixth sense. There are several types of psychic power: Clairvoyance is probably the most well-known and basically means that the psychic is able to see the future. They may get visions or may have prophetic dreams. Clairvoyants often use crystal balls when doing readings, to make the most of their clairvoyant ability. Clairaudience is when the psychic can hear voices or messages from their higher selves that help them predict future events. They may sometimes hear actual voices which give them messages. Clairsentience is when the psychic gets certain feelings, such as butterflies in the stomach, that help them predict future events. Claircognizance is when a psychic just knows things. They can then use this knowledge to inform you of possible events in your future. Clairgustance is when a psychic can smell things that others can’t and they use this to help them understand certain situations.
Psychics use various divinatory tools to perform readings. One of the most popular is the tarot, but some psychics like to use crystal balls or read palms. Often, a psychic will use a variety of tools to give you an all-round reading. When a psychic gives a reading, they will use their intuition when looking at the cards or crystal ball and this will give them the ability to predict events that are likely to come up in the future and some may also be able to see things from your past.

Divination is taken from the Latin word divinare, which means to foresee or be inspired by God. In ancient times, people believed that God had a plan for them and some cultures thought that they could predict what God had in store for them using divination. A lot of ancient divination was based around God’s feelings towards the people. They wanted to know if God was angry or happy with what they were doing on Earth.
In ancient times there were a lot of divinatory practices taking place. In Greece, there was an oracle in Delphi who attracted high-profile people from far and wide. She was called Pythia and people took what she said seriously. She became so popular that people were willing to pay huge sums of money to consult her. For those who were not able to get to Delphi, or who didn’t have the money, they used to consult seers instead. These were people who claimed to be able to read signs around them to predict future events. Most seers could only give a yes or no answer to a person’s question, though. There were a lot of battles in Greece, at that time, and the generals of each army would consult a seer on the battlefield before fighting commenced. The seer would slaughter a sheep and look at its liver to try to get a better idea of future events. The battle would not take place until the seer had given his or her prediction. Divination was taken very seriously in ancient times.
